It's been about 3 years since I taught my last class, and 2 years since I resigned from the University. Although there have been a number of ups and downs since then, I have not regretted the decision to leave academia, though I miss teaching and the whole idea of being an academic.
I recently restored my old academic wiki to find some information I needed, and I think I'll keep it up online for now. I miss being a professor, though not doing the work of a professor. If anyone ever tells you that academics do less work than people in industry, then they are completely wrong and have likely not done both. Since leaving the University I really do have time to wire anything into anything.
